More consistency.
New challenges.

Your dog already has the basics. Now we work on duration, distance, and distractions, with progression suited to your level.

6 weeksUp to 5 dogs

What is included

  • 6 Saturday lessons · 75–90 min
  • Tuesday evening practice included
  • Support for your dog-and-handler team’s progress

Your starting point

For dogs and handlers who already have consistent foundations. Entry follows Basic Obedience at Motion Dogs, or a prior assessment for teams with equivalent training.

Completing Basic Obedience does not mean automatic progression. Both dog and handler need the foundations to benefit from the next level.

The six weeks

Expand a week to see the exercises and training goals.

Week 1

Assessing and strengthening the foundations

We establish the starting point for each dog-and-handler team.

We work on

  • Attention
  • Quality of communication
  • Positions
  • Leash handling
  • Recall
  • Stays
  • Identifying areas for improvement
  • Defining each team’s starting level
Week 2

Duration

We gradually increase how long your dog can maintain a behavior.

We work on

  • Longer stays
  • Steadiness while waiting
  • Activity and movement around the dog
  • Varying the time before release
  • Reducing the need for constant help from the handler
Week 3

Distance

Your dog learns to maintain behaviors as you move farther away.

We work on

  • Gradually increasing distance
  • Maintaining positions
  • Recalls over longer distances
  • Handler movement
  • Less reliance on physical proximity
Week 4

Distractions and control

We increase the demands of the environment.

We work on

  • Other dogs
  • People
  • Movement
  • Toys
  • Food
  • Environmental stimuli
  • Different levels of excitement
  • Regaining attention
  • Maintaining behavior around distractions
Week 5

Sequences and continuity

We begin to link exercises together.

We work on

  • Combining behaviors
  • Transitions
  • Leash work followed by positions
  • Stays
  • Recall
  • Changes of pace
  • Less reliance on a visible reward
  • Continuity throughout the work
Week 6

Practical application

We apply the work in settings that progressively approach everyday situations.

We work on

  • Passing people
  • Passing other dogs
  • Stays with movement nearby
  • Regaining attention
  • Combining duration, distance, and distraction
  • Complete sequences
  • Final assessment of the dog-and-handler team

Progression follows the learning pace of each dog and handler.

Motion Dogs Practice

Tuesday evening Motion Dogs Practice is included throughout the six weeks of both Basic and Advanced Obedience. Supervised training to repeat exercises, ask questions, and refine your work.

Attendance is optional and complements the main lesson. Missing a Tuesday session does not mean missing essential course material.

  • Practice the main lesson’s exercises
  • Discuss difficulties and correct small mistakes
  • More supervised repetitions
  • Work with different distraction levels
  • Adapt exercises to each team’s challenges

What we aim to build

  • Greater duration
  • Greater distance
  • Better ability to work around distractions
  • Improved impulse control
  • Greater steadiness
  • Greater consistency
  • Less reliance on a visible reward
  • More reliable responses in everyday situations
